Between the high and low tide marks on the shores and docks of the South Puget Sound live an amazing aray of marine life. Setting out on the beaches of Olympia, Washington we explored our southernmost reigon of the Sound to find and photograph all the animals seen in this guide. Our search focused on the most common invertebrates found clinging to rocks, buried in the sand or floating freely in the currents. With this guide we hope you will discover the fascinating and beautiful marine animal life in the Sound. We created a comprehensive guide that will be enjoyed by both students of science and outdoor enthusiasts alike. All of these animals are found south of Tacoma, many are at home throughout the Puget Sound, and Northwest estuaries along the Pacific coast. Even with the seasonal populations of some invertebrates, the waters remain exciting and richly inhabited year round! Our guide book is great to take along for walks on the beach or a stroll down the docks. So fear not the claw of the crab and explore the shallow waters of this thriving corner of the world! |
