Description: 30-40 cm in length, can reach 80-90 cm; color is an irridescent blue, green or greenish brown with tiny red, gold or white spots, lighter color underneath; parapodia are red and two lobed; head has four pair of tentacles and two pairs of eyes; fleshy lobe on each side of the mouth and a broad rectangular lobe with short tentacles above; body is thicker in the head region and tapering toward the rear.. Habitat: Commonly found in mud flats where mud is stiff. Natural History: It burrows deep in the mud, but may be seen when swarming during mating. It is much larger than N. vexillosa and not encountered as frequently. |
